Why Explore Out-of-Network Therapy
What is OON Therapy?
1
Out-of-Network (sometimes called Self-Pay) means that our practice does not bill insurance directly. Depending on your insurance plan, you may be eligible for reimbursement for a all or most of the session cost through your out-of-network mental health benefits. Often, clients find that costs are similar to co-pays for in-network providers!
Why Don’t You Take Insurance?
2
Choosing not to participate in insurance networks allows us to provide care that is guided by your needs rather than insurance requirements. While insurance can be a valuable resource, it often places limitations on treatment and requires therapists to share personal health information with the insurance company.
Working with an out-of-network therapist offers several benefits, including:
Greater privacy and confidentiality
More flexibility in treatment length and frequency
The ability to tailor therapy to your unique goals and needs
Freedom from insurance-driven restrictions or requirements
Increased choice in selecting a therapist who feels like the right fit for you
Our priority is providing thoughtful, individualized care in a way that supports your therapeutic goals and overall well-being.
How Do I Know if I Have OON Benefits?
3
Many insurance plans include out-of-network benefits for mental health services. The best way to determine your coverage is to contact your insurance company directly (via the number on the back of your insurance card) and ask:
Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health therapy?
What is my out-of-network deductible, and has it been met?
What percentage of the session fee will be reimbursed after my deductible is met?
Is there a limit to the number of sessions covered per year?
How Do I Utilize OON Benefits to Get Reimbursed For Therapy?
4
Using out-of-network benefits is often simpler than many people expect. Our practice will provide you with a monthly Superbill (a detailed receipt that includes all of the information insurance requires for reimbursement), which you can submit to your insurance company. Many insurance companies even have online portals or mobile apps to easily submit. Finally, your insurance company reimburses you directly according to your benefits.
